Product description

The Benedictine Monks of Prinknash Abbey have been blending incense since 1906 when the community was on Caldey Island in the United Kingdom, and are now the oldest major incense blenders in Europe. Inspired by Exodus 30:34-35 the Monks developed unique processes for blending the purest Arabian frankincense with precious aromatic oils and spices and created superior recipes for a range of incenses. The blends now produced at the Abbey are made to long-established recipes. Consistent excellence ensures that each blend has its regular devoted customers in every continent. Prinknash Abbey is situated in Gloucestershire, England, and is the home to a community of Roman Catholic Benedictine Monks. Their life is regulated by the Rule of St Benedict that was written 1500 years ago in Italy. It was, after the Bible, the most influential Christian document in Europe during the Middle Ages, and still has relevance today. The community began life in the Church of England when their founder, Abbot Aelred Carlyle, set up a small community in the Isle of Dogs, London. After many wanderings, they eventually settled on Caldey Island off Tenby, South Wales, and became Roman Catholic in 1913. However, financial pressures forced the community to leave Caldey and in December 1928, they came to Prinknash Park, where they have been ever since. The Prinknash incense blend of St Michael consists of natural and colored grains of frankincense with a little added balance of myrrh. Each box contains 1lb of incense.
